For the elite athlete best performance is associated with automatic optimal functioning, which occurs when the athlete is able to self- regulate the thoughts, emotions and behaviours relevant to success. Learning ways to self regulate the range of psychological factors that underlie the ability to function at the optimal level will facilitate peak performance.
